Skills Development Facilitation

3 Day Course.

OVERVIEW:

The VCA Skills Development Facilitation Course runs for 3 consecutive days.

CONTENT:

  • Conduct skills development administration
  • Co-ordinate planned skills development interventions in an organisation
  • Develop an organisation’s training and development plan
  • Identify and interpret related legislation and its impact on the team, department or division and ensure compliance
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of the basic component and fundamental skills of effective communication

The course is aligned to the following Unit Standards:

  • 15217 Develop an organisational training and development plan
  • 15227 Conduct skills development administration in an organisation
  • 15232 Coordinate planned skills development interventions in an organisation
  • 15225 Identify and interpret related legislation and its impact on the team, department or division and ensure compliance
  • 110506 Demonstrate and apply knowledge and understanding of the basic components and fundamental skills of effective communication

This course will be assessed by a number of formative exercises that occur during the course. It is a hands-on learning programme with contact time knowledge and skills component of around 22 hours, an offsite application component of approximately 150 hours as well as research which should take about 30 hours. In addition to this, “on the job” Skills Development should take place. This should take approximately 100 notional hours to perform as “selling the idea” to your company is a vital part of being an SDF.

Business writing course

BUSINESS WRITING COURSE

2 Day Course (5 Credits at NQF Level 2)

OVERVIEW:

The VCA Business Writing Course runs for two consecutive days.

Learners credited with this Unit Standard will be able to write for a range of contexts. They will be able to use a range of writing conventions and a variety of sentence structures in order to be able to write effectively. They will have an understanding of appropriate register in different contexts, and will also be able to select the correct format for the type of writing in which they are engaged.

CONTENT:

  • Writing for a specific context
  • Correctly using grammatical structures and writing conventions
  • Adapting language to suit specific contexts
  • Drafting and editing your own writing

The course is aligned to the following Unit Standards:

  • 119456 Write-present for a defined context

This course will be assessed by a number of formative exercises that occur during the course.

Learners will spend approximately 16 hours contact time with the facilitator, and at least 34 hours working individually on assessment exercises after the course for subsequent assessments. Time frames will be provided. Thus, the course will carry roughly 50 notional hours.

Mentorship Course

3 Day Course (3 Credits at NQF Level 4)

OVERVIEW:

The VCA Mentorship Course runs for one day a week for three consecutive weeks, with weekly practical assignments.

This very practical course developed by hands on experienced Mentors not only teaches you how to be an effective Mentor but also capacity builds Protégés / Mentees.

Coverage includes the matching of Mentors and Protégés and provides a host of developmental tools for mentorship.

CONTENT:

  • Explain the concept of Mentoring
  • Explain and implement the skills and characteristics of a good Mentor
  • Explain the importance of knowledge in Mentoring
  • Apply the skills and techniques required of a mentor

The course is aligned to the following Unit Standards:

  • 114215 Mentor a colleague to enhance the individual’s knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in a selected career path

This course will be assessed by a number of formative exercises that occur during the course.

This is a hands-on learning programme with a contact time knowledge and skills component of around 23 hours. When taking into account research and related activities which amount to around 10 hours, the full programme generates around 3 SAQA credits.
